"I Love my Post Office Campaign" brings new life to Post Office
With a view to connect with the public and to increase the business, a major campaign titled ‘I love my Post Office’ was launched in March 2012 with His Excellency, the Governor, J&K State as its patron. This has resulted in a major increase in the number of Savings Bank accounts, RPLI policies and in the enhancement of stamp sales across the State.
National Sports event in Srinagar after 36 years
After a long gap of 36 years, J&K Circle organized the All India Postal Athletics Meet at Srinagar from 31 Oct 2011 to 2 November 2012. Nearly 200 athletes from various States participated in the Meet. Dr Farooq Abdullah, Hon’ble Minister for New & Renewable Energy inaugurated the event at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar. This was well appreciated by all the participants and by the State Government. Again, during August, 2012, the Circle is hosting All India Postal Football Meet.
Floating Post Office at Dal Lake, a major tourist icon
Srinagar has the distinction of having the unique ‘Floating Post Office’ at Dal Lake and this has become a major tourist icon of Srinagar. During 2011, we have revived the concept of ‘Floating Post office’ at the Dal Lake and the post office cum museum was dedicated to the public in October 2011 by Shri Sachin Pilot, Hon’ble Minister of State for communications and IT and Shri Omar Abdullah, Hon’ble Chief Minister, J&K. This has become a major attraction for the tourists and the local people of Srinagar.
Sale of local products through Post Office
Kashmir is known for its special products like saffron, walnuts, Kashmir apple, Kashmir handicrafts etc. With a view to develop the local economy Post Office has tied up with the business offices and traders and the State Government, marketing of local products including Saffron, Apple, Dry Fruits, Handicrafts etc. through the Retail Post.
"Post Shop", a new business model to enhance the revenue
Postal administration across the world are developing Post Offices into ‘Post Shops’ with a view to increase revenue and to attract more customers. With the changing concepts of ‘Retail’ business, Post Shop can be a good business model . In J&K, we have established Post Shops at Leh City Post Office, Floating Post Office Dal Lake, Srinagar GPO and Gandhinagar (Jammu). This has enhanced the image of the Post Office. In Leh City, ‘picture post card’ is a very good attraction at the Post Shop. Many tourists buy picture post cards and send them to various destinations. In Floating Post Office at Dal Lake, we are selling special covers, philately stamps, packaging materials, stationery and souvenir items.
In Srinagar GPO, Post Shop sells philately products, Greeting Cards, Picture Post Cards, Stationery items, Telephone products and local souvenir products.
Registration of Amarnath Yatris at Post Office, a new beginning
Effective this year, Post Office has been involved in Registration of Amarnath Yatries in association with Shri Amarnath Shrine Board. Post Office has also established two Yatri Post Office at Baltal and Nunwan to provide the full range of Postal Services to the yatris at the base camps.
Post Office and Tourism Development
Kashmir is known for tourism. Post Office in J&K has been involved in the development of tourism in association with the Tourism Department. Selected Post Offices at tourist destinations function as Tourist Post Offices providing Tourist related services, Philately and Post Shop Services to facilitate the tourists. The Department of Posts has tied up with Gulmarg Gondola Cable Car Corporation for the sale of Gondola Tickets at Post Offices.
J&K Circle gets Speed Post Award in the national level
J&K Circle was given Speed Post Award for securing the 2nd position in Speed Post growth in the All India level during the Heads of Circles Conference held in June, 2012. Post Office has introduced same day speed post service within the city under which speed post articles booked up to 1 pm are delivered on the same day within the city through the second delivery of Speed Post. Considering the availability of convenient flights, we have introduced ‘Same Day Delivery of Speed Post’ between Jammu and Srinagar. Under this service, Speed Post articles booked before 11 a.m. are delivered on the same day. This has enhanced the image of India Post. Directorate has provided us three motor cycles and they are being used for delivery of Speed Post articles in Jammu and Srinagar.
Modernization of Post Offices in Jammu and Kashmir Rajbagh
As a part of Post Office transformation plan in Jammu & Kashmir, a modern Post Office was dedicated to the public by Shri John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir Circle at Rajbagh area of Srinagar city. While addressing the gathering Shri John Samuel said that ten more such modern Post Offices will be developed in Srinagar city this year to provide efficient and quick services to the public. He said that Rajbagh Modern Post Office will provide all facilities such as Speed Post, Letter Post, savings Bank etc. He further added that Jammu & Kashmir Postal Circle is committed to provide best services for which efforts are being taken at large scale under the motto “Go Forward”. Chief PMG said that the Floating Post Office at Dal Lake has become a major tourist icon of Srinagar. The Department will be involved in the development of tourism by organizing Post Office Tourism Festival with the Floating Post Office as the main hub of activities. In the recent past, J&K Postal Circle inaugurated Lal Bazar Post Office and Jawaharnagar modern Post Office.
The customers living in Rajbagh area were very happy to get the modern Post Office and thanked J&K Postal Circle for the honour given to the Rajbagh area. They also appreciated the efforts taken by the Postal Department, J&K Circle to develop the Postal Services in valley for the last one year due to which J&K Post has regained its glory. The residents of the area also emphasized that more facilities and schemes be provided in the modern Post Office in Rajbagh so that they are benefited with the schemes.
Modern Post Office opened at Pampore
A modern Post Office was also dedicated to the public by Shri John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir Circle at Pampore. While addressing the gathering he said that ‘Saffron Post’ will be introduced shortly to help the Saffron Growers and Dealers. Shri John Samuel said Pampore town is historically known for saffron, the ‘Red Gold’ and more than two lakh people are involved in the production, distribution and sale of saffron. The network of saffron is around Rs.100 crores per annum. To facilitate the saffron growers, Post Office will start marketing saffron through the Post Office network. Shri John Samuel said that ten more such modern Post Offices will be developed in Srinagar city this year to provide efficient and quick services to the public. He said that Pampore Modern Post Office will provide all facilities such as Speed Post, Letter Post, Savings Bank etc.

MODERN POST OFFICE OPENED AT JAWAHAR NAGAR SRINAGAR
Jawahar Nagar Post Officewas dedicated to the public by Ms. Suneeta Trivedi, Member Postal Services Board, New Delhi in the presence of Shri John Samuel, Chief Post Master General. Ms. Trivedi was happy that Srinagar is getting many modernized Post Offices thanks to the efforts taken by Chief Post Master General, J&K Circle. She wanted Post Office to be the cultural and business centre for all the people. She said Post Offices are known for trust, reliability and social development. After dedicating the Post Office, she inaugurated India Post Gold Coin Service at Jawahar Nagar Post Office. The customers living in Jawahar Nagar area were quite happy about the upgradation of the Post Office. Chief Post Master General introduced the Postmen with the new uniform.
Shri John Samuel announced that Jawahar Nagar Post Office will provide India Post Gold Coin Service. Currently, gold coin service is available only at Srinagar GPO. India Post has introduced the sale of 24 carat gold coins at the Post Office outlets.
The function was attended by a large number of local people who welcomed the Department of Post for fulfilling their long pending demand. Shri Amit Sharma, Director Postal Services welcomed the gathering. Shri N.D. Prajapati, SSPO’s Srinagar Division presented the vote of thanks.
JAMMU MARKET GETS A MODERN POST OFFICE
A modern and new-look Post office at Jammu Market was dedicated to the people by Shri John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General Jammu and Kashmir at a function held in the Jammu Market Post Office, today in the presence of huge gathering of local customers . Speaking on the occasion, Shri. John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir said that as a part of J&K Post Office Transformation Plan, Post offices in J&K are being upgraded to make them customer friendly and relevant to meet the needs of the people. Jammu Market Post office will function as a computerised post office offering mail services, speed post, Registered post, post office savings bank, Express Parcel Post, Post Shop and sale of gold coin facilities.

MIRAN SAHIB GETS MODERN POST OFFICE
A modern and new-look Post office at Jammu Secretariat was dedicated to the people by Shri Madhav Lal, Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir at a function held in the New Secretariat, Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Shri. John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General, Jammu & Kashmir said that as a part of J&K Post Office Transformation Plan, Post offices in J&K are being upgraded to make them customer friendly and relevant to meet the needs of the people. Jammu Secretariat Post office will function as a computerised post office offering mail services, speed post, Registered post, post office savings bank and Post shop facilities. With the upgradation, Jammu Secretariat Post office will also be linked with Same Day Speed post facility. Under this service, Speed Post consignments booked until 1 p.m. will be delivered on the same day within Jammu town.
Shri Madhav Lal appreciated the efforts taken by the Department of Posts in improving the postal services in J&K. He said that the modern post office at Secretariat will be much beneficial to the various offices functioning in the Secretariat.
GOVERNOR INAUGURATES ALL INDIA POSTAL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
“Srinagar 2012” All India Postal Football Tournament got kick started at Bakshi Stadium today on 25th August 2012. Tournament was inaugurated by His Excellency Governor of Jammu & Kashmir at a glittering function held at Bakshi stadium today. Sh R.S.Chib Hon’ble Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services & Sports Jammu & Kashmir Government presided over the function.
This is the first time that Jammu & Kashmir Circle is hosting the All India Postal Football Tournament which is being played at two venues i.e. Bakshi Stadium & Pologround Srinagar. Nine teams from across India representing various Postal Circles are participating in the programme. Nearly two hundred team players & officials are participating in “Srinagar 2012” all India Postal Football Tournament.
An impressive march-past was carried out by the participating teams. On this occasion a cultural programme was presented by school children of Presentation Convent Srinagar & Govt Higher Secondary School for Girls Amirakadal. First lady of Jammu & Kashmir Smt Usha Vohra released a “My Stamp” on the tournament. Thereafter participating teams were introduced to his Excellency Governor of Jammu & Kashmir. Inaugural match was kicked off by Sh R.S.Chib Hon’ble Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services & Sports Jammu & Kashmir Government.
His Excellency Governor of Jammu & Kashmir addressing players & guests lauded the efforts of Chief Postmaster General Jammu & Kashmir for all round development of Postal Services & holding of many events of significance. He welcomed participating football teams.
Sh R.S.Chib Hon’ble Minister for Technical Education, Youth Services & Sports Jammu & Kashmir Government in his address appreciated the efforts of Chief Postmaster General Jammu & Kashmir for organizing philately exhibitions, release of first day covers & many sports events which has given thrust to the sports activity in J & K state. He further said that sports council of J & K is providing infrastructure for encouraging young people to take up sports. Sports Council is arranging football matches between Mohanbagan Football Club West Bengal & J & K State Football Association Eleven.
Speaking on the occasion Sh John Samuel Chief Postmaster General Jammu & Kashmir said that this national tournament will showcase Kashmir as a good destination for sports & tourism. He further stated that department of Posts in J & K is extending its reach to the farthest corner of the state for providing its services to the poor & downtrodden. He also stated that J & K Postal Department will be providing state of art sports infrastructure for its players
